Larva
This sculpture is my interpretation of a red ant larva. The translucency of the alabaster lends itself to an interesting and mysterious effect of a red ant ready to emerge during its pupa stage of development. It is interesting to note that due to the nature of alabaster light transmits through the various graining beautifully. In this particular piece, when light transmits through the top area it actually looks like the red ant larva actually has a brain with a vascular system.
Respite Installation from "Anthra-Sight"
Sculptural depiction of a sleeping coal miner who works in the four feet high “monkey veins”. These miners crawled into and worked lying on their backs, stomachs and sides. They developed arthritis from the dampness and could not sleep on a soft bed. Therefore, they slept on the kitchen floor next to the coal stove to keep warm during cold winter nights.

Spoken Timber
Anthracite coal miners of Northeastern Pennsylvania had a saying, "If the timbers start talking, we start walking."
The timbers did not support the mine roof.
The mine roof was held up by pillars of stone that miners left standing as they dug out adjoining chambers of coal.
When timbers started to make noise or crack the miners left the area quickly because it meant there was movement above that indicated a cave-in of the mine ceiling was imminent.
This timber has spoken. The Coal Baron

The Marvine Belt
This video shows the remnants of The Belt that moved a mountain of coal across the Lackawanna River. It was part of the lecture/presentation of the Anthra-Sight solo exhibition by Denis A. Yanashot at The Hope Horn Gallery at the University of Scranton.
In the Anthra-Sight series by Yanashot there is a relief sculpture entitled Mountain Mover. This piece is an abstraction of the belt constructed with remaining pieces of this defunct structure.
Parts of this structure of yesteryear are located at the former site of The Marvine Colliery in North Scranton where Toyota of Scranton now stands. A dilapidated part of The Belt still spans the Lackawanna River at the former site of Breaker No. 1 of The Marvine Colliery.
The Carving Studio & Sculpture Center (CSSC)
The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center is located at the head of two hundred acres of former marble quarrying and manufacturing facilities. The post-industrial landscape was a key element in the founding of our organization over 20 years ago. Today, inactive quarries and former manufacturing facilities offer a fantastic landscape for the imagination. The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center has expanded programming to include exploration of most sculptural media.
