This is a Sarracenia or pitcher plant. It is a hybrid called Sarracenia purpurea. This plant gets its nutrients from prey that fall into the pitcher form of the plant. The prey is then disintegrated and digested by enzymes in the fluid inside the plant. Sarracenia plants need the prey they consume because they usually are found growing in areas that are not rich enough in nutrients to sustain them.
