Depiction of a Northeastern Pennsylvania burnt (and burning) coal culm dump. Actual red iron oxide and other pigment material from the burnt Marvine Colliery culm dump in North Scranton is used on this piece. This sculpture can be viewed in normal gallery lighting or in a dark area. When shown in a dark area it is illuminated from the inside casting an eerie blue light as the actual burning culm dumps produced at night while they were on fire during the 1960’s in Scranton and surrounding communities in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
